Brands often overlook important details when generating posts for their social media accounts. Everyone wants their message and brand to be visible, but organizations sometimes need to approach it differently. Understanding these pitfalls is essential so your brand can flourish

Here are the five most common tropes businesses should avoid when writing for social media:

1. Inconsistent tone

Keep your tone consistent and positive. Sounding human while representing a business connects you with your audience. An inconsistent tone can immediately put people off or confuse them about what your brand is attempting to communicate.

2. Forcing your social media message

Never push a message that doesn’t fit your brand. Organizations sometimes do this to jump on the bandwagon of the most popular social media trends. Before posting, ask yourself, “Does this fit my brand?” If not, don’t post it! Trust us; it will come off as awkward and may lead to losing followers.

3. Being redundant

Constantly posting the same thing on social media will make you sound like a robot without a unique perspective, and your followers may start to see your brand as lazy or uninspiring. This can impact your algorithm, ultimately leading to decreased interactions and reduced visibility.

4. Being negative

Don’t be negative on social media. When interacting with people, be considerate. You won’t break or win the internet by trying to seem “edgy” or sarcastic. You’re a brand. Unless your “thing” is being a jerk, don’t be a jerk! Nothing good comes of that.

5. Over-posting on social platforms

Reels are ruling Instagram right now, which means brands tend to overcompensate to match that popularity. Suppose your mad dash to be part of the reel conversation translates into you sharing something that’s not up to your standard. In that case, increased visibility will not help you. Often, your followers will be annoyed and hide your account or even unfollow you (yikes!)
